Gah! I really can't keep up with the blog, failed at the blog challenge, but anyhoo, I will still post random thoughts and some of the challenge topics when I have the time. In the past month, I've been going overboard on book buying, I feel like it's been a long time since I managed to read a book from cover to cover. For now, I'm currently reading these:
Yeah, I read several books in the same period of time. Some, I finish faster than the others.1. The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan
I know this is a teen/pre-teen fiction book, but I find the story interesting. It's the second installment in the new series, 'The heroes of Olympus', this time focusing on the Roman aspect of the mythological gods and goddesses. It features Percy Jackson, again, plus two new demigods. A fun, action-filled book that delights the imagination and of course, reminds me of the things I learned about greek and roman mythology.
2. All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten by Robert Fulghum
I don't really need to expound on this book, since most people already know about it/have read it. But it reminds us of the basics, how to live a simple but decent life, respect for others, being grateful for the little things. It makes me realize just how much we complicate our lives as we grow older, and how refreshing it is to sometimes be like a kid again.
3. Never steal a paper clip by David McKenna
This book caught my attention because of the title, obviously. Hehe. It's actually a book on biblical leadership, how to deal with common leadership problems quickly and courageously. Though I'm not actually in a leadership position, I have found several of the suggestions given useful and sound. The first few chapters which I have read tackle limits, loneliness and control. I believe reading this book will be a great benefit to me, both as a teacher and a corporate employee.
4. A long way down by Nick Hornby
Another fictional story, I've read about a third of this book. It's about four troubled individuals who decide to end their lives by jumping from the top of a building on New Year's Eve, only to find themselves on the roof with three other people having the same intent. It ruins each one's suicide plans, and worse, becomes publicized as a suicide pact because two of the four are well-known people. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens to them after they come down from the roof, do they decide to make a second try at living, or will their suicides just be postponed, not cancelled? Hmmm...
So that's it for now. I hope I finish these books soon, and find other interesting reads.
